Fashionista Friday

Last week my best friend and I attended Shecky's Girls Night Out here in Los Angeles and when ever I attend a Girls Night Out event I always make it a habit to wear one of my Soul Couture tee's. Since the Beautiful Brown Girl tees have been selling really well I decided to wear the Mustard BBG tee to the event and I received several great compliments from some really beautiful women. I wore an outfit similar to the one in the middle only my cargo shorts were from the men section at Target and this brand that I snagged from Polyvore cost $288 which I would probably never spend on a pair of cargo shorts even if I had an extra $288 to spend. I layered my tee with a dark denim vest and added three wood bangles (Soul Trio) which are now available on my web site and a pair of Gold hoop earrings to complete my look and I was off to a fun filled night.

This is a first for me. Last Friday along with one of my best friends I hosted Fashionista Friday. Fashionista Friday is a quarterly girl’s night out event created for women by women and if I should say so myself it's the ultimate girls night out. Thanks be to God Fashionista Friday II was a total success and we can't wait to begin working on our fall event. Soul Couture was a hit and my new couture Beautiful Brown Girl tee's sold out before the evening ended. I don't vend often but when I do get a chance I like to add a few accessories to my booth just to add a little extra something to finish off your tee. This Friday I displayed trendy bracelets, rings and clutches that were all naturally inspired.

I absolutely adore stationery and there is something about receiving a hand written note card that makes my heart flutter. In this fast paced world of instant messages, e-cards, emails, social networking and crazy abbreviations we’ve gotten a tad bit out of touch with the human heart which make me wonder if we’ve lost it all together and have now adapted to this new way of life. Even our postal service is struggling to stay afloat because the sale of postage has gone down and it’s primarily due to technology. The family owned Hallmark in my neighborhood that had been in business for more than 20 years had to close its doors due to the decline in card sales. Technology can be both good and bad all at the same time.

When I started Soul Couture (formerly Trendy Tee’z) I use to send a hand written note to each and every one of my customers thanking them for their support. I would sometimes also include a blank note card asking them to use it to bless the life of another woman. There is something about a handwritten note in my opinion that gets the endorphins flowing which in my opinion is a natural healer.

I’m glad to announce that my Soul Couture stationery will be available for purchase in early March. Each one of my tee designs will have a corresponding piece of stationery that will be bundled together to create an assortment stationery.

I'm a true girly girl. I love things like lace, ruffles, pretty skirts and sexy shoes. I've gained a few pounds over the years and believe it or not my self esteem has suffered a little. I don't feel as confident in my clothes as I use to. I've been participating in the biggest looser contest at work and I'm glad to announce I've loss 3 pounds. I know that may not sound like very much but for me it's a huge accomplishment. I only have about 15 more pounds to go and I'm going all the way.

Spring and summer is approaching and that means a lot of entertaining will be going on. Birthday parties, evening cocktails and just hanging with a few of my favorite girls. All of these outfits are so my style. Of course I put this together using Polyvore so the prices of some of these items are off the charts. I'm not a big department store shopper I tend to lean more towards boutiques but I sometimes find many of these looks at H&M, Forever 21, Target, Express and sometimes online.

Every year people set New Year resolutions and three months into the New Year most have already fallen off. Probably because they never really have a clear vision of what they are trying to accomplish. After I graduated from high school my best friends and I got together one evening and created a vision board. I taped mine to the back of my closet door to constantly remind me of what I wanted and what I wanted to accomplish. Years later I am still practicing that technique but instead of a vision board I use a journal and I carry this journal with me every where I go. Why? Because I never know when an idea is going to cross my mind or when I may receive a revelation from God. I also fill my journal with special quotes, bible scriptures, sketches and clippings from magazines. The visuals help me to keep my eye on the prize. I know that some will find this hard to believe but I visualized my engagement ring and I sketched it out in my journal and when my King proposed to me my engagement ring was almost identical to my sketch. The bible tells us in Habakkuk 2:2-3 “Then the LORD answered me and said: ‘Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.’” God’s vision when written, gives you the inspiration to stay focused and concentrate on the business at hand until that vision has come to pass.

Not only should we visualize but we should speak our vision into existence. Proverbs 18:21 states that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Use your journal or your vision board to serve as a reminder to make positive affirmations. Be Prayful and seek God’s guidance to bring your visions to pass.

For those of you who are interested in creating your own vision board I’ve prepared a few tips to help you along the way.

Supplies you will need to create your vision board.

Poster Board
Magazines (make sure you have a wide variety so you won’t limit yourself)
Glue Stick
Assorted Markers

If you’re going to take the journal route I suggest visiting your local .99 cents store. I prefer Michaels Arts and Crafts or Target. Both have some really cute options.

Lastly call some friends, prepare some tasty bites and make a party out of creating your vision boards. Accountability is important and making a party out of it will give you a chance to get together and socialize with other women who share your vision for the future.

When I first launched Trendy Tee'z (by accident) I use to get flooded with questions. How do you bog? where do you purchase your tee's? How many tee's do you sell per day? How do you do this? How do you do that? well I freely answered all of those questions because after all my motto was "as iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend" well over the pass year I've learned that everyone doesn't share my motto and everyone that say's their happy for you really isn't happy for you. Some of the events that has happen over the pass year has left a really sour taste in my mouth but I'm determined not to let it break me down. God has a purpose for my life and as long as I have breath I'm going to live out that purpose. I come from Royalty and so do you!

Many many moons ago when I was trying to land a career in public relations I was introduced to a PR Geru here in Los Angeles that I had been following for many years. She started her career with a well known movie director, moved up the ranks and eventually opened a small public relations boutique in West Los Angeles. Months later I applied for a position with her firm and to my suprise I was called for an interview. I interviewed with her head public relations assistant and he assured me that she would love me. I know this is going to sound a bit cliche but he said "you're just the person we've been looking for". I came back a few days later for my interview (a little nervous) but I knew I had canned this one. The assistant gave me a heads up on the questions that she would ask and told me to research the dorector she previously worked for. I had rehersed the questions in my head over and over again and I was ready to land this job.....the day came, we shook hands she gave me a look over and even before she asked the first question I knew that I wouldn't be receiving the YOUR HIRED phone call. Shortly after leaving the firm I received a phone call from the assitant telling me not to take it personal. It wasn't that I wasn't qualified he said SHE JUST HAVE A THING WITH OTHER WOMEN.

Now that I'm embarking on this Soul Couture journey I've been encountering a lot of women that just have a problem with my fire. I've shared my resources, my knowledge, my time and my creative talents to help other women along their journey but I'm not getting the same in return. I talked to a friend of mine about what I've been expereincing and she replied "I'm not sure why some women have problems with women like you" Excuse me! What type of woman am I? Should I not believe in myself? Should I not follow my dreams? Should I not be confident?

It is my believe that my success depends on the success of another woman. Don't hate her because she's beautiful, don't hate her because she's confident, don't hate her because she's talented, don't hate her because she stands tall, don't hate her because she believes in herself.....I'm to emotionally drained to continue.

I told you a couple of week ago that I was revamping things and I was going to be moving Trendy Tee'z in a new direction. While I love Trendy Tee'z I just don't think the name is a true representation of who I am and what I'm trying to accomplish. So after much thought and prayer I've decided to change from Trendy Tee'z to Soul Couture. I will be introducing my signature tee's in the very near future and I will also be introducing a line of couture tee's that I'm sure you will love. The opportunities are endless. I just hope and pray that you receive Soul Couture with the same love and enthusiasm in which you received Trendy Tee'z and continue to take this journey with me.

90 Day Challenge Update

So here's the pictures I promised that I would post. I've started my workout routine and I'm on the road to a new healthier me. I never thought in a million years I would be faced with this challenge but I guess with age comes a slower metabolism. I've traded in my Pepsi for water, my morning coffee for green tea (no sugar)eliminated the chocolate chip cookies (at least for 90 days) and have added more lean meats to my diet instead of the fatty meats I'm use to eating and I've also added more vegetables in addition to exercise. I hope I'm able to accomplish my goal in the next 90 days. I sure hope I didn't set myself up for failure especially with the holidays approaching.

Remember I told you guys last week that I'm revamping the business and changing the name. Well I'm still revamping the business but I'm not sure if the name is going to change. Since I've already made a little name for myself on line and around town I'm thinking I just might hang on to Trendy Tee'z and create a few collection. Although I love my Afro Girl tee and my Natural Beauty line I don't want to put myself in a box. I want to sell all types of tee's. Tee's that you can wear for any occassion. Right now I'm working on my Couture Collection of tee's and tanks and if all goes well I should have a sample to show in a couple of weeks. I'm praying this works out and if it doesn't I'll keep trying until it does. Have a great weekend.

Real Talk

I'm having a serious melt down! Why? because I need to lose at least 20 pounds. I'm weighing in at a wopping 160 pounds right now and I have to do something about it. Never would I have imagined I would be in this situation. I was the girl that prayed for 5 pounds. I could eat whatever I wanted to eat, whenever I wanted to eat it and not gain a single pound. Oh how things have changed. Over the last couple of months I have tried The 3 Day Diet, Weight Watchers, Football Bootcamp, Diet Tea and several other lose weight quick tricks but nothing has worked. Probably because I haven't stayed committed to any of them and I don't have a partner to hold me accountable. The only thing that has worked over the last couple of months is my mouth. I keep eating and eating and eating. I LOVE FOOD and I realized that over the years I've developed some really bad eating habits. Grabbing a Pepsi before water is never good and eating Red Velvet Cupcakes in leui of a well balanced meal is a sure way to add on the pounds so this is what I've decided to do. I'm getting my sexy back. I'm making a promise to myself and to you that I will lose 20 pounds in 90 days. Later this week I will be posting a photo of myself as I am now. I am going to warn you now, the picture will not be pretty but I have to do it because I need all of you to hold me accountable. I need to get back to where I use to be and I can't do it without your help. Loving myself on the inside is just as important as loving myself on the outside. I'm going to elliminate the junk food and the Pepsi from my diet, eat more vegetables and lean meat and do my fair share of exercise to keep the heart pumping the way that I should. I want to be around for a long time.

Since the weather is on my side I thought it would be fitting to pull out my faithful boyfriend shorts. Boyfriend jeans and plain tee's or tanks are my staple. It's so easy to add a few accessories, throw on a cute bootie and grab a blazer to create the perfect outfit. The look is super easy to pull off and the finish product is always cute and chic.

I was really into blogging in early 2009 but something happen back in December of 2009 that put me in a serious funk and believe it or not I've been in that funk for several months now. Some of you who have been following my little blog since the beginning know how excited I use to be about Trendy Tee'z. Trendy Tee'z was never really about selling tee's but more about my love for other woman and how the success of a woman depends on the success of another woman. I thought how cool would it be to have a platform where women all over the world could share their stories, their talents, their joy and even their pain with other women all over the world. A place where you can come to be inspired, motivated and uplifted.....well today ladies I'm reclaiming my power. Trendy Tee'z is back and on the road to success and I'm taking all of you with me. It is my belief that there is enough success out there for all of us so let's go get it and rememeber that as "iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend" Proverbs 27:13.

I really love everything about summer time. For some reason the sunshine brings out the very best in me and this summer I'm loving rompers. Prior to the birth of my daughter I weighed 121 pounds and at the time of delivery I weighed 196 pounds, dropped down to 158 and I've been hovering there ever since. I'm not comfortable with my current weight. Don't get me wrong the birth of my daughter helped a sister out in all the right places but I can stand to lose 10-15 pounds which is my goal by the end of the summer. I was at the mall earlier this week and I tried on a couple of rompers. Super cute but my tummy area wasn't allowing me to get the fit I was looking for. Yea I can throw on my $150.00 body magic (money thrown down the drain) but who wants to wiggle and roll on the floor to fit into that damn straight jacket when I can change my eating habits and get on the road to living a healthier life....but if I were my ideal weight I can see myself wearing these cuties around town and when the weather gets a little cool in the evening I can layer it with my old faithful denim jacket and still look super cute.

I've been looking for a really cute mustard peep toe for a while so when I saw this cutie at Aldo a couple of months ago I waited patiently for them to go on sale. I don't believe in spending lots of money at stores like Aldo for two reasons (1) the shoes are man made not genuine leather and (2) by the time you get the shoe home the shoe has already gone on sale. I hate to see my money go down the drain right before my eyes, so when I saw the shoe earlier this week for $44.00 I grabbed it.

This shoe is a little too high for my taste but because I will only wear them with a skirt which I rarely wear they will work out just fine.

Today was a perfect California day. It may have been a little too hot for some but after an entire month of June gloom the sunshine was exactly what I needed. My family and I attended a celebrity basketball game that my honey organized. This game has been in the works for several years and today one of his dreams came true. The proceeds from the game benefited the youth activity league, an after school program that cater to the needs of at risk youth here in Los Angeles. Giving back is something that's near and dear to my heart and I don't think we can do enough to help those in need. The basketball game was a huge success and we're looking forward to next year.........moving on.

Just because you're attending a basket ball game doesn't mean you have to pull out your sneakers. Today I decided to step up my game just a little. I paired my boyfriend shorts with a platform bootie for a little extra support and comfort for the many trips to the concession stand, added a white tank threw on a few simple accessories and I was out the door. I love feeling pretty and you should feel pretty too.

You have no idea how happy I am it's Friday. I will be featuring a trendy chic interview sometime next week. Sorry for the lack of post but I've been super busy. Invitations, t-shirts and motherhood (which I love the most). So many things have happen this week but there is one thing I want to say. Everybody who says "I'M HAPPY FOR YOU DYMESHA" is not really happy for me. While you're hating on me and my "little tee's" that's what she called them to someone ..... I'm making moves and changing lives and you're still in the same place. God judges the heart and while I may not gain fame or fortune from selling "my little" tee's I'm so glad that God promises me so more after this life is over, and if there's one thing I know God always make good on his promises. I love everything about spring. For some reason it brings out the best in me. I was looking at my blog a couple of days ago and it screamed BORING. It really needed a face lift so I decided to create a new header and of course a new Spring inspired Natural Beauty tee to kick off the season. I was a little afraid to print this tee but boy am I glad I did. It's so fresh and clean and it screams girlie. I love girlie. This tee is a Fab Friday Find! Today Trendy Tee'z participated in Art Show 2010. An annual event that raise money and gives scholarships to local students here in the Los Angeles area. Although I wasn't able to be there for the event a friend of mind did a great job representing Trendy Tee'z. She even was able to get Verdine from Earth Wind and Fire to purchase My Hope Love Faith tee in mustard. I wish I had more pictures to share but my friend was holding down the booth and taking pictures at the same time. All proceeds were given to charity. Thank to all those who purchased a tee at the event. A deserving student will benefit from your generosity.

Hey Ladies

I told you I would update you when I find out the nature of the allegations. Here it goes... Someone called my job anonymously (another employee, an admire I would assume) and told them that I have outside employment. We're suppose to report all outside employment and it should not exceed 24 hours weekly. I didn't report Trendy Tee'z or Anaya Grace Designs because I didn't equate Trendy Tee'z or Anaya Grace Designs with outside employment nor did my employer define what they consider outside employment to be. So tomorrow I will officially notify my employer that I have outside employment...lol.. 2010 is going to be an awesome year. Try again haters! No one is going to stop me from changing lives. Hey Ladies

This has been a horrible week for me. First someone called my employer anomously with some sort of allegations agains me (I'll find out Monday what the allegations are) then I receive a telephone call that one of my closest friends is clinging on to life. I'm trying to be strong right now but even the strongest person can have a moment. Please pray for me. The bible tells us that where two or more are gathered in his name there he is in the midst.
